Transformation

trans·for·ma·tion -- ˌtran(t)sfərˈmāSH(ə)n / noun

a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance.

Transformation comes in so many different shapes, forms, colors. Self-transformation, though, is probably the most powerful. That moment you decide to see yourself as valuable, as beautiful, as worthy. Being a photographer, my transformations tend to lend themselves to outer beauty, to seeing yourself in a photo and thinking, "Wow, that's me?" But what are the long terms effects of seeing yourself in a new light?

Well, the ramifications are endless. Take your health, for example. A small transformation can have huge and long-lasting positive effects for your health. Have you put off changing some of your eating habits thinking, why bother, or diets never work. Transformations don't have to be earth-shattering. Maybe as simple as eliminating soft drinks in favor of more water. Or planning meals at home so you aren't stopping on the fly for a greasy hamburger at the fast food joint. What it boils down to is that you are worth it. Your body deserves better, and when you see yourself as worth good health, I believe it makes healthy choices easier to make.

What about your spirituality? I was reading a blog recently after doing some research on the blue heron. (I will have to write another blog on that topic another day) and came across an article from 2011 (www.beingbreath.com), which had this quote from Marianne Williamson:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Becoming the best version of ourself is what we were put on the planet to do!

Now back to photographic transformations! I would like to introduce Laura, a fellow photographer and friend, who came in to my studio to be photographed by me. It's always a little nerve-wracking working with another artist, but we ended up having a great time. She sat for a "before" photo before the shoot so that we could see the transformation from no make up to all glammed up, and wow, I was blown away! (Laura is over 50, but you would never know it!! Please don't tell her that I shared her age, though!) You can see Laura's photography at www.lauratallo.com.
